Acclaimed writer and judge Malu Lambert chaired the judging panel of the inaugural Fine Wine Awards, which is sponsored by American Express and organised by Wine of the Month Club. The awards ceremony took place on a perfect winter afternoon on 13 June 2024 at Cavalli Estate.

For a first-time competition, the total of 900 entries was an astonishing number, but at R99 per entry, to be expected. The wines were tasted blind using a 100 point system and only 18 Gold medals were awarded and 12 trophies for the best in each category.

The awards ceremony was short and sweet and followed by delicious canapes and a tasting of the trophy winners.
